SpectraLogic - The right solution to handling archive and backup
requirements rests on a simple observation: data exists in one of
two basic states. The first state is that of primary data, or data
that is in active use on expensive, fast disk. The second state
is that of secondary data, or data that is stored for archive or
backup.
From
the observation that data can be classified as either primary or
secondary, a clear technology need emerges: the need for storage
dedicated to secondary data—to archive and to backup. An integrated
archive and backup platform lets you easily manage secondary data,
using appropriate hardware that meets power and space consumption
concerns, and still gives you the flexibility to implement replication,
D2D2T, and much more.

| The
Right Solution: Spectra nTier Intelligent Secondary Storage (ISS)
Appliance |
| Spectra
Logic’s nTier line of Intelligent Secondary Storage (ISS) Appliances
are the first in this new category of data protection. nTier simply
and elegantly addresses the multiple problems of how to manage, access,
and store data once it has moved from primary storage. |
The nTier Server Family
|
- nTier500
for small to mid-range organizations
- nTier700
for mid-range organizations and departmental applications
-
nTier900 for large enterprises
|
Once
your data moves off primary storage to the nTier archive and backup
server environment, it stays there. The data can be replicated, archived,
and written from disk to tape, without ever having to go back out
on the SAN or through external servers.
By addressing the entire problem with a unified solution, rather than
approaching it through a multitude of single-purpose appliances, you
save time, money, and energy through an inherent simplicity.

Time
Navigator

A
Comprehensive and Modular Data Management Solution
|
| |
Time
Navigator Server
Available on a wide range of platforms, Time Navigator Server is the
central point of administration for agents, database modules, storage
nodes, libraries and drives. The software provides the tools to hold
backup strategies and schedules, and keep track of all backed up object
indexes in order to enable time navigation.
Time
Navigator Storage Node
Time Navigator Storage Node is a key component for SAN backup as
well as remote site backup. It provides the optimal way to gather
data streams to a central location to be backed up seamlessly to
tape or disk, while relying on a centralized Time Navigator Server
for administration and index management. A storage node handles
libraries and drives, centralizes data streams and supports an unlimited
number of database modules.
Backup
Agents
The Time Navigator Agent resides on the client host to read and
write data during backup and recovery operations and send the data
to the host or storage node. It is a native agent, capable of backing
up and restoring files with all relevant attributes for optimal
restoration.
Database
Agents
Database agents are plug-in modules that use the native method provided
by database vendors to backup the databases while running. They
are non-disruptive to the database operations and allow full or
partial recovery after a major or minor database incident.
Data
Archival Module
The Data Archival module is the natural add-on to Time Navigator's
backup and recovery engine. This module provides a simple way to
graphically select, classify and document sets of data for long-term
archiving purposes. Through a central repository of folders, archives
and keywords, the data can be easily retrieved on demand. This module
is easily interfaced with business applications, either via the
API or the command-line mode, to provide unlimited storage space.
Disaster
Recovery Module
The Disaster Recovery module provides advanced capabilities to store
images of disks, including system disks, for full recovery in case
of a major system crash. The recovery operation is based on a bootable
CD that seamlessly recovers the most recent image available from
the Time Navigator backups.
NAS
Modules
The Network Attached Storage modules consist of agents for NDMP-based
NAS, an agent for Windows-based NAS, as well as the NDMP Data Server
that enables any file server to be backed up and restored via the
powerful NDMP method. In addition, the NDMP tape server offers tape
and library automation in order to centralize backup from multiple
remote NASs.
SAN
Modules
The Storage Area Networks modules consist of shared drive options,
storage nodes, and the Enterprise Storage module. The storage node
is installed on all hosts and is backed up directly via the SAN,
enabling LAN-free backup to shared drives and libraries on the SAN.

Features and Benefits
|
| |
Real-Time
Protection
CDP Technology monitors files for changes and backs up data as it's
saved, ensuring recovered data is as recent as the last save.
Complete Transparency
Data gets backed up automatically without end-user work pattern
interference or network overload.
Data Deduplication
Eliminate duplicate user documents and system files in Full System
Protection mode, which saves storage space, reduces bandwidth usage
and significantly saves costs.
Disconnected State Support
Protect PC data in a disconnected state and backup laptops even
while they're roaming.
Central Management
Administrators can enforce consistent backup policies across the
WAN and control features available to individual users.
Increased Flexibility, Management and Scalability
Easy transfer and redirection of clients from one Live Backup server
to another simplifies IT management when the business grows or you
add remote office users.
Remote Administration
Remotely repair system malfunctions with the Management Console
interface.
Self-Serve File Recovery
A user-friendly interface makes file recovery easy for users, minimizing
the need for IT assistance, improving productivity and lowering
TCO.
System Rollback and Disaster Recovery
Versioning capability lets you easily restore malfunctioning systems
without time-consuming troubleshooting. Disaster Recovery restores
systems from a system image on a local CD or network drive.
True Bare-Metal Disaster Recovery
Completely restore lost, stolen or unbootable PCs and laptops without
reinstalling the OS and applications-in only hours versus days.
Automated Checkpoints
Automated checkpoint generation guarantees consistent and continuous
computer protection without relying on administrator or user responsibilities.
Enabling frequent checkpoints improves the success of disaster recovery
and system rollbacks.
Enterprise Ready
Data compression and redundant file elimination increase storage
efficiency and minimize impact on network bandwidth. |
